A Day in the Life

Based on the rider's manual we received before the trip started, this is the typical day for a Bike and Builder when we are out on the road or have a build day! So when you're trying to picture my day, this is what it should look like!

Typical Riding Day
6:00 a.m.

Wakeup, suit up, prepare bike, pack trailer, eat breakfast, clean host location. Typical breakfast includes cereal, fruit, bagels, peanut butter, etc.
7:30 a.m.

Route meeting – Discuss housing issues in destination town, go over route cue sheet (directions), and start biking.
8:15 a.m.

Stop with fellow riders at an awesome coffee shop. Tell all the morning regulars what you’re doing. Be surprised at the donations you get.
11:00 a.m.

Arrive at lunch stop, usually about half way through the day’s ride. Typical lunch includes PB&J, cookies, chips, fruit, and maybe leftovers from dinner. Lounge in the sun. Eat more peanut butter. Refill water bottles.
12:15 p.m.

Find a large lake on the side of the road. Swinging rope is a bonus. Swim for a while.
2:30 p.m.

Arrive in town. Stop for ice cream/soda/burger/entire meal. Explore a random place you’ve never been. Meet the locals, spread the word.
3:30 p.m.

Get to overnight location. Help unpack trailer, unload coolers. Stretch, hydrate.
4:30 p.m.

Showers! Usually within walking/riding distance or a short van ride away.
6:00 p.m.

Dinner! Typically provided by the host. Get a chance to eat with community members and help give a short presentation about B&B.
8:00 p.m.

Affordable housing meeting. About once a week you will get together as a group to discuss various topics surrounding affordable housing in the U.S.
10:00 p.m.

Fall asleep on your Thermarest

Typical Build Day

Head into town to catch a movie.
10:30 p.m.

Days Off
Each trip has several days scheduled into the summer as “Days Off”, where trip participants will have the day free to do as they choose, within the policy limitations. Days off are generally planned in places that riders would want to explore a bit more intensely, you and your fellow riders may occasionally get together to plan group events for those interested. Riders are more than welcome to use the time to rest, relax, and enjoy the surroundings they are in.
