Build Day 3

We built in Mobile Alabama with Habitat for Humanity. The original house that they wanted us to work on was a painting job but because it had been raining constantly, we were unable to go there. Instead, we went out to a site that had three houses (just like the first one) and did laminent flooring which looks super similar to hardwood floors but isn't quite the same. The house I was in was able to move through the house pretty quickly! Rhys, Patrick (the site supervisor), and I worked together the majority of the time and Rhys and I were in charge of tackling the section of the house that had a lot of weird corners so we were doing a lot of intricate cuts and measurements, which I enjoyed a lot.

After a long build day, a Bike and Build alumni, Margaret, invited some people out to down town Mobile for some chips and Queso that the restaurant donated to us! It was such an amazing time and so awesome to be able to get away from the huge group for a little while and go to a sit down restaurant for some different food! The place was ironically called the Ok Bicycle Shop even though it didn't seem to have to do anything with bikes and they sold sushi and Mexican food (my two favorites)(but pizza is a favorite too!). The majority of the night I hung out with Claire, Gaurang, Maddy, and Angela. I laughed the hardest I have in a long time with them! We all just goofed off and made complete fools of ourselves but I have a really great time! For dinner I had a steak and a shrimp taco plus A LOT of Queso, which is what I had been craving for so long!

At dinner, we also had Bike and Build alumni Shane and Kevin visit with us! They were able to spend the night and ride with us ino Biloxi the next day so that was pretty awesome. That's definitely something I would like to do next summer when I'm back in the real world and want to feed some hungry bikers. Kevin also worked with us at the build site earlier that day which was also really awesome.

Before we left for dinner that night, the two men that had scooped up Jamie after her accident stopped by to have some food with us and meet the group. They were so so nice and it was really amazing to meet the people that were able to lend such a helping hand to a fallen team mate. They had also bought the group a GPS for the van so that if there is an emergency again, the driver will be able to get hands free instructions to a hospital or something. The two men were so wonderful and so investing in what we are doing and how they were able to help. It was very touching and wonderful to see complete strangers care so much and want to protect a crazy group of bikers as we make our way.

There were a lot of wake up calls in Mobile and a lot of blessings.
